THE CHALLENGE
Set in the picturesque grounds of Burghley House in Stamford, Lincolnshire, the leading equestrian event is attended by around 170,000 people over the course of four days. It is broadcast live on national television, by the BBC, and streamed online as Burghley TV, behind a paywall for the first time. Show-critical network connectivity and site-wide IPTV services were required to ensure visitors could always keep an eye on the action, wherever they may be. Wi-Fi access was required for electronic ticket sales at all entry gates across the 1,000-acre site and as the site went cashless, more than 60 food outlets required internet connectivity.
The Solution
The successful running of the show, the live feed for the BBC and the Streaming broadcaster relied on a stable and continuous network connection, with no room for error.
DBpixelhouse designed and installed a resilient network across 20 miles of fibre & copper cable and used industry leading equipment by Cisco, Ruckus and Exterity to ensure 100% uptime throughout the event. IPTV systems powered by Exterity distributed live and pre-recorded content around the event site, managed from a central control centre where a live events tv director from DBpixelhouse routed the appropriate content to different areas. Interactive content curated by DBpixelhouse promoted the sponsors of Land Rover Burghley during breaks between the action. All the food outlets had wired internet with 100% uptime during the event, enabling their cashless payments systems to work without a fault. In addition, the PA company utilised the DB installed network to route their signal round the site. DB also supplied all the screens around the site, including 4 large LED trailer-based screens (two of which were our new 28sqm units) showing a mix of scoring, live coverage, and adverts, helping to ensure that no visitor to Burghley Horse Trials was ever far away from the action.
The Result
All the meticulous work undertaken during planning and installation paid dividends with a fault-free 100% uptime show period.
60 screens around the site relayed live footage of the equestrian event, with DB connectivity also providing VOIP telephony, Wi-Fi and PA signal over a 1,000-acre area.
