THE CHALLENGE
The site had historically revolved around the biennial air show but was also successful in winning other work in temporary structures. To get more utilisation, Farnborough decided to build a permanent venue of 12,000sq ft. In order to get funding, they required commercial partners to invest with them.
The Solution
DB, with more than 5 years of providing internet services for the venue, was asked to be one of those partners.
after investing in approximately 30 miles of permanent network fibre at the site, we were the trusted technical partner. We designed and installed the new hard wired and WiFi network in the newly named FIECC, providing all internet, network and telephony, ultimately investing a multiple six figure sum in the new building.
The Result
FIECC has arguably the most flexible, secure, and high bandwidth venue in the UK.
For the air show, which features Europe’s largest event IT network, DB supplies hardwire internet and telephony connections to more than 400 individual exhibitors via both the permanent fibre network and a temporary 100 miles of fibre and copper. 200 WiFi access points are also supplied, with 6,000 concurrent users. 25TB of network traffic and 600 VOIP telephones, via 35,000 connections, are securely delivered to the show, the centre of the global aerospace industry for 5 days. As well as the air show, DB supplies simple and highly complex networks to all the other events at the FIECC site and elsewhere.
